On this chart of the weekly SPY, notice how the price stopped at the lower Bollinger Band (left, red arrow), advanced to touch the upper band (green arrow), and then fell back to the lower band (right, red arrow). The bands provide good price target zones. Where is price headed now? Here is where we want to look at ADX; it shows the –DMI is dominant and ADX is strong and rising. These conditions suggest that a move to the upper band is less likely, and the possibility of an ABC retracement or downtrend is more likely at this time.
